EVA Board Appoints James Jeng President
Longtime Evergreen Group executive assumes post September 1

TAIPEI, TAIWAN (27 Aug., 2008) – The EVA Airways Corporation Board of Directors appointed James Jeng as the airline’s president on 26 Aug., 2008 and he takes on his new responsibilities on 1 Sept.  An Evergreen Group veteran and international transportation expert, Jeng has handled key responsibilities for several of the organization’s companies and has extensive airline experience.  Jeng replaces Peter Chen who served EVA as president for two years.

Jeng joined the Evergreen Group in 1984 after earning his Master of Marine Management degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  He was a part of the team that established EVA Air in 1989 where his responsibilities steadily increased until 2000 when he transferred to the airline’s domestic subsidiary, UNI Air, as executive vice president.  In 2002, he became chairman of the domestic carrier.  Today, EVA is the leading independently owned airline based in Taiwan and UNI Air is expanding service to short-haul international flights, including Mainland China.

Jeng brings his new EVA position benefits of deep experience in management, strategic planning, international transportation and shipping.  Immediately before returning to the airline, he was vice chairman of Italia Marittima SpA.
Fresh out of MIT, he started in the Project Division of Evergreen International Corporation.  He gained greater global experience in international transportation and shipping when he moved to the sales department at Evergreen Marine Corporation and then to Evergreen America Corporation.  During EVA’s formation and launch, Jeng worked in international affairs and was promoted from deputy junior vice president to deputy senior vice president of the fledgling airline’s Corporate Planning Division before his move to UNI Air.
The Taiwan native earned his doctorate of arts, transportation, technology and management from National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan and his master of arts, transportation, technology and management from the same institution in 1979.  He earned his second master’s degree and completed his work at MIT in 1983.
