The brand new London Heathrow Airport Terminal 2 check-in procedure

On 4th June 2014, Star Alliance carriers welcomed their first passengers to Heathrow’s new Terminal 2, also known as the Queen’s Terminal (in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II). Gradually, all operations, including check-in counters and airport offices will move over from Heathrow’s Terminal 3 to the new T2 building. EVA Air’s check-in area will be located in Zone A, providing a brand new efficient check-in service.

On Monday 23rd June, members of Star Alliance and Heathrow Airport Ltd welcomed the Queen for the official opening.  Star Alliance representatives from all over the world were there to witness the opening of the new terminal. In the future, all Star Alliance members will operate all services from Terminal 2.

The brand new Terminal 2 check-in procedure is divided into 3 waves. This enables passengers to reduce their check-in queuing time by 10-30mins.

  1. Wave 1 – Self check-in kiosks for check in and printing of boarding passes and luggage tags
    The new terminal fully utilises the kiosk machines for check-in, replacing the previous check-in desks located in Terminal 3. After the passengers arrive at the departure hall, they can use the self-check-in kiosks in Zone A to print their boarding passes and luggage tags.
  2. Wave 2 – Baggage Drop counter
    Passengers who need to check- in their baggage can drop the baggage at any ‘bag drop’ counter to complete the check-in procedure.
  3. Wave 3 – Dedicated for Business Class passengers and also passengers who require any special assistance
    Passengers travelling with EVA Air Royal Laurel (business) Class and any passengers requiring special assistance can go directly to this counter on arriving at the terminal to proceed with their check-in and baggage drop.

Passengers travelling in Royal Laurel Class, may proceed directly to the newly opened Air Canada lounge immediately after completing check-in formalities.
Star Alliance Gold Card holders can use any of the Star Alliance members’ lounges.

Other benefits to EVA Air passengers using Terminal 2 include convenience for all those who have onward connections with other Star Alliance carriers, with shorter transit times being reduced to just sixty minutes.

Currently there are 23 member carriers of Star Alliance at Heathrow Airport, five (including EVA Air) of which are now based at Terminal 2. The remaining 18 carriers are scheduled to move to Terminal 2 before the end of November, which will provide passengers with a seamless service in the new Queen’s Terminal.
